Five minutes with Chris Denton, Warehouse Team Leader

What does a typical day as Warehouse Team Leader look like?

As Warehouse Team Leader, I oversee the day-to-day operations of Klober’s Distribution Centre based in Castle Donington. This mostly involves ensuring operations run as efficiently as possible to meet product dispatch deadlines. As well as supervising the warehouse team, I have quite a hands-on role and we all do our bit to make sure everything gets out the door and onto the lorries in time.

It’s a safety-first environment with a busy atmosphere and we are often required to work with heavy machinery and stock. As such, a pivotal part of my job involves making sure that health and safety rules are always being followed.

How long have you worked at Klober for?

It will be my 9-year anniversary working at Klober this October. Over that time, there has been significant change and we now have access to customer insights which allows us to keep an eye on market trends. In line with this, Klober is continually investing in R&D which has resulted in range expansions, such as the 6m and 10m Dry Ridge Kits on offer.

What’s been your career highlight?

My time at Klober has allowed me to develop my skills and knowledge of the industry. I’d always aspired to be a Team Leader and I’m humbled to have been promoted into the position earlier this year. A huge thanks goes out to the rest of the team who’ve supported me, and I’m grateful for the training and experience I’ve had access to so far.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Klober?

The warehouse requires a lot of teamwork, so there’s a real sense of community. We all look out for each other. It’s great when new faces join the workforce but we’ve still managed to retain a tight-knit feel within the team. I have a close rapport with my colleagues and I am always happy to offer my support where needed – whether that’s simply making a nice ‘cuppa’ or having a chat.

What’s your favourite Klober product and why?

It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but it’s the KG979100. This product is Klober’s vent adaptor for soil ventilation. Clearly a bestseller, we dispatch large quantities of the adaptor stock on a daily basis, which makes it pretty clear that this solution addresses a key market need. Like all of our products it’s high-quality and simple to install.

If you could teach your younger self one thing, what would it be and why?

I’d tell myself not to focus too much on the future. Sometimes, we’re so busy looking ahead that we forget to live in the moment. It may seem unimportant at the time but it’s always worth pausing to appreciate where you are and what you’ve got to be grateful for. 

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I got into running earlier this year which is not only great for my physical health but also helps my mental wellbeing too. Some days, I like to take things at a slower pace so spend my time going for walks. Especially when the weather starts to improve, I like to spend as much time outdoors as possible!
