Comparing the durability of Wakaflex
We may have created Wakaflex, the 1st alternative to traditional lead and metal flashings more than 25 years ago, but consistent and rigorous testing of all aspects of the product is key to maintaining its superior performance. We regularly test our products, including simulating 30-year ageing of Wakaflex along with other 5 other leading brands, in our technical centre in Germany.
What did we test?
For over 12 months we simulated a range of ageing factors in our state of the art technical centre. This included long exposure to sunlight, rain and various adverse weather conditions, including extreme low and high temperatures.
What was the result?
Everything ages, however, the results showed us that Wakaflex outperformed all other products as its appearance aged as expected, but remained in good condition and the material composition stayed intact, meaning it continued to perform and do the job after 30 years.
The 5 other products tested, all showed signs of degrading, cracks and penetrations exposing the grid and butyl and breaking down the appearance. Ultimately meaning that these products would not stand up over time, would stop working and would need to be replaced to avoid water ingress on the roof.
2-layer products, where the surface has been penetrated, exposing the grid and butyl. The serious damage has broken down the flashings, impacting the appearance and performance of the products:
Wakaflex shows ageing as expected but the material remains in tact and it continues to perform after 30 years:
