Economy Dry Ridge Kits | With or without lugs?...You choose

Since the launch of our popular Economy Dry Ridge Kit in April 2021, we have seen its popularity surge with installers making it a favorite ridge ventilation system. We have been delighted with the feedback and it has been a very positive addition to our Klober Ridge and Hip range.

One thing that does seem to divide opinion however, is which ridge seal is the best design. Do installers prefer WITH, or do they prefer WITHOUT fixed lugs? It’s a question that both merchants and installers show such strong preference, offering about as much room for debate as the age old ‘what came first, the chicken or the egg?’. So much so, we cannot decide on your behalf, so we are now offering with and without fixed lugs to accommodate for both preferences.

Now we’re offering you a choice of ridge seal design - WITH, and WITHOUT Fixed Lugs.

Why WITH Lugs? 

Having a ridge seal with fixed lugs can be really beneficial and support you with the installation process, allowing the lugs to sit securely over the top of the ridge tiles and keeping the seal firmly in place when fixing the ridge tiles over the ventilation system ridge roll. With Lugs kits are compatible with most concrete ridge tiles on the market.

Why WITHOUT Lugs?

Having a ridge seal without lugs can be beneficial for its universality. The seal without lugs can be used with a slightly wider variety of ridge tiles at all thicknesses, including clay tiles. It is also believed to have a slightly more discreet finish, as the clamping plate that sits above the ridge tile when installing, is a little smaller and less visible than those WITH fixed lugs.

Which is the best performing?

Both of these kits, WITH or WITHOUT Lugs, perform just as good as each other, offer high level roof ventilation at the ridge, and both support compliance with:

BS 8612 for Dry Fix Performance

BS 5250 for Ventilation and the Management of Moisture

BS 5534 for Installation and Mechanical Fixing

Whether you prefer WITH or WITHOUT is completely your own preference - there’s no right or wrong answer, both kits are equally as good as the other and both support British Standards compliance.
